Don't worry there is help. At first the concept of taking all wheat and gluten out of your diet doesn't seem like that big of a deal...
Then you go to the grocery store. This is the OMG part of it for most people. Gluten in some form is in almost everything, especially convenience foods. The more labels you read the more quickly your realize how much of a challenge this really is. There are lots of ingredients that you just can't have and there are more still that are questionable so that you have to call the company and inquire to ensure that they are in fact safe for you to consume.
I removed gluten from our house for the health of my fiancée. But since it was just the two of us, I was able to make the entire kitchen gluten free. Having No wheat in the house helps a lot because it takes away temptation and also eliminates the risk of contamination. This isn't the case for many where there are gluten eating and non gluten eating members of the family. I was lucky and I had help at the grocery store. I very dear friend of mine and her daughter both have celiac disease and after a few trips to the store with her I had the shopping thing down. Fortunately I love to cook so for me not a lot changed besides the flour I use and I have to do more with out short cuts such as gravy mixes. Everything now tastes so fresh and wholesome, and I am having so much fun trying to reinvent all of our old favorites in a gluten free form. We don't even miss going out too eat. I guess that is another hurdle that I will have to tackle later.
You are not alone. Take your time and read the labels. Unfortunately you have to read the labels every time because a manufacturer can change a formula at any given time. There is lots of stuff that you didn't know that you can have you just have to find it. And if you can't find it just ask.
